There are at least 3 advantages to buying a Cemetery book 1. Each Cemetery book has a complete index of all the names appearing in the book, including married and maiden names for an individual when given. The books have the advantage of more complete indexes as compared to the online indexing provided by the MyTrees.com website. Names without dates were not included in the index on the MyTrees.com website. Also, the cemetery books contain many marriage dates as additional notes to the tombstone entries. These marriage dates were not indexed for the website. However, the marriage date information can be viewed on the imaged page when it is displayed on the website. The index of the book includes the woman's name in both married and maiden name variations, if given. The MyTrees.com website indexes women by their married names and includes the maiden name as middle name. The index of the book includes names which did not have a date associated with them. The index on the MyTrees.com website included only names which had at least a birth or death date listed. 2. Another advantage of owning a Cemetery book is the ability to leaf through the pages. In the books a single cemetery may occupy multiple pages. In order to view all of the names in a given cemetery one would need to leaf through a number of pages. On the MyTrees.com website each name that is indexed links to the image of a single page, the page on which the name appears. The functionality of seeing the next or previous pages, in order to view the whole cemetery, is not provided. 3. Owning a Cemetery book allows you to view the biographical data in the description of each cemetery. This data may not be easily accessed using the index on the MyTrees.com website. Much biographical information has been provided in the Cemetery books some of which may not be indexed on the MyTrees.com website. Also since the biographical data usually appears in the description of the cemetery this information may not appear when you access the page that has the actual name you have clicked from the website index. Use the free MyTrees.com search to determine if your family names are listed in one of the Cemetery books, or view the list of the Cemeteries in the Table of Contents for each book at the www.AncestryVirginia.com site so you can choose the book you would like to purchase. There are at least 2 major advantage to buying a Marriage 1. Each Marriage book has a complete index of all the names appearing in the book, including married and maiden names for an individual when given and parent's names, minister's names, and witness names. Each marriage entry includes valuable biographical data about the couple which includes names of individuals related to the couple. These additional names were not indexed for the MyTrees.com website but can be viewed when the imaged page is displayed for the couple you have selected to view. Since only the marriage couple with their respective marriage and birth dates was indexed for the MyTrees.com website, it would be of great advantage to own the marriage books, Books 10 and 11, just to view the additional names in the indexes. The index to the Marriage books contains the names of the marriage couple, as well as, their parents, the minister, the witnesses, and other relatives. This data was not indexed for the MyTrees.com website. 2. Another advantage of owning a Marriage book is the ability to leaf through the pages of a given year of marriages. This might be necessary if you do not know the exact surname spelling the marriage couple used. In the books, marriages are listed chronologically so in order to view all of the names in a given year one would need to leaf through a number of pages. On the MyTrees.com website each name that is indexed links to the image of a single page, the page on which the name appears. The functionality of seeing the next or previous page, in order to view the entire year of marriages, is not provided. |
